German Footballer On Cover Of Gay Magazine.

It's a first: A high profile football player on the cover of a German gay magazine. Philipp Lahm, currently playing for premier federal league team Bayern Muenchen and in the national team, is on the cover and the coverstory of Front Magazin. Don't get your hopes up high - he hasn't left his girlfriend and is doing his coming out interview, but he DOES offer his two cents on one of Germany's last taboos: Gays in football. Says Lahm: "I don't think it's necessarily a good idea to come out for a player. The point is: He'd be the first in the federal league. He'd expose himself, the media frenze would be enormous and how would it go on?" He continues to say that fans are not exactly politically correct when it comes to their favorite sport. But he wouldn't have a problem if someone was gay on his team. "If someone on the team was gay, he would still be a teammate and I wouldn't change anything about how I would be around them." Lahm likes living in an open and tolerant society.
Don't expect a high profile coming out any time soon in German football.
