Brisbane Lions Coach Leigh Matthews attributes a concerted focus on tackling as a significant factor in his team’s current run of wins.

“Good teams tackle very well”, said Matthews last night after his team beat North Melbourne by 37 points in a lackluster game at the Gabba in Brisbane.

“That’s one of the building blocks of any good team performance”.

“The last 5 weeks, our tackling pressure has been exceptional”.

The Lions lead the competition in tackles per game and are second overall in total tackles with 1285.

Brisbane has won their last 5 games, launching them into finals contention after heading to the mid-season break with 4 wins and seven losses, as well as a draw against Richmond.

FootyHeads, are the Lions genuine September contenders?

What do they expect us to say? Hell, yes!
